The Secretariat for the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing is currently hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO). The Secretariat has five core functions:
 

1. Management and coordination: including facilitating collaboration among United Nations agencies (under the auspices of the Inter-Agency Group on Ageing) and with international partners including through the Healthy Ageing Collaborative.
    
2. Advocacy and communication: including by developing and implementing a communication strategy and related processes (e.g., managing websites, email communications, social media activity, and production of advocacy briefs such as the Decade Connection Series).
    
3. Knowledge management: Maintain and improve the Decade knowledge Platform, and manage the content submission and review process.
    
4. Accountability: ensure ongoing monitoring and reporting on the Decade to the World Health Assembly and UN General Assembly in 2023, 2026 and 2029.
    
5. Resourcing: fund Secretariat activities, manage and report on existing funds, and identify new mechanisms for resourcing the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing.

The Decade Secretariat is jointly managed by the Unit Heads of the Demographic Change and Healthy Ageing Unit (DHA) within WHO's Department of Social Determinants of Health, and the Ageing and Health Unit (AAH) within WHO's Department for Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and Ageing.
